As Geoffrey Mohan has written in the Los Angeles Times, “Increasingly fond of locally grown produce, Californians are far less enthusiastic about locally housed farmworkers.” Across the state, guest workers sleep in motels, shacks, and cars—and, too infrequently, in purposefully designed dwellings. Here, we assemble an interview with Los Angeles architect and affordable housing specialist John Mutlow, FAIA; examples of recent farmworker housing projects; a 2001 article from the arcCA Archive on David Baker Architects’ Moonridge Village; and a selection of additional resources, historical and contemporary.
