The Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) is one of 21 Knowledge Communities that facilitate the sharing of knowledge among AIA members and beyond, by way of discussion threads, resource libraries, blogs, and events. The AAH advocates for innovations in design that help improve healthcare, works with allied organizations, and shares the latest research through webinars, conferences, and publications. Its Healthcare Design Awards showcase the best of healthcare building design, healthcare planning and healthcare design-oriented research.
Of the five recipients of the 2019 AIA/AAH Healthcare Design Awards, one is by a California firm (Montalba Architects) and one was designed jointly by a California firm (The Design Partnership) and a California office of a nationwide firm (SmithGroup).
