Stalled!, formed by architect Joel Sanders, transgender historian Susan Stryker, and legal scholar Terry Kogan, takes as its point of departure national debates surrounding transgender access to public restrooms to address an urgent social justice issue: the need to create safe, sustainable, and inclusive public restrooms for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or disability.
Stalled! tackles this topic through three design, legal, and educational initiatives: developing Best Practice Guidelines for all-gender restrooms in light of legal, economic, and practical considerations; amending the International Plumbing Code (IPC) to allow for all-gender, multi-user restrooms; and raising the awareness of the design community and institutional and government stakeholders.
